Convection Currents and Wall Washing of Fibre Insulation
Convection currents occur inside walls because fibre insulation allow movement of air. This works in the same fashion as convection currents changes our atmospheric conditions. Air in the cavity next to the interior side of the cavity rises as it absorbs heat from the warmer surface. Air on the cold side sinks, giving off heat to the exterior surface. This rise and fall of different temperature air causes circulation called convection currents which continues as long as one wall surface is warmer than the other thereby costing a loss of energy that was used to heat/cool the interior.
Wall washing happens when the wind blows against a building and enters the wall through even the smallest penetration. As the air travels inside the cavity through fibre insulation it 'washes' heat from interior surfaces, and carries this heat to another side of the building, and out!
Air does not move through a Mantle wall, for purposes of this comparison, in even the windiest conditions because the substrate (the insulation) is solid and does not allow convection currents or wall washing. Our panels, along with the air-tightness method of fixing them together, creates an incredibly air-tightness that significanly reduces energy consumption relating to heating or cooling. |

Sound transmittance (noise) through the human ear is measured in Decibels (dB's). An average home produces around 50dB in noise levels when fully occupied, loud music around 80dB, a motorcycle passing around 90dB, and so forth.

Superior Sound Insulation
Mantle walls offer you a quieter, more tranquil interior environment, with a very high sound transmittance reduction. With the use of quality windows and doors, noises outside a Mantle structure will be reduced to a whisper inside the building, if even that. |

Highly Moisture Resistant
Mantle walls/roofs do not need an extra vapour barrier, even though they may be used in conjunction with various cladding/tiling methods because the manufacturer of the cladding/tiling recommends it. For below-grade applications, Mantle provides a waterproofing system that ensures a comfortable and dry basement. Improved air quality is another benefit as Mantle eliminates the studs and cavities that can hold moisture and foster mould and mildew growth. |

An Energy Efficient Passive House
We are a home grown British technology that matches any energy efficiencies offered by 'others', thereby reducing the need for importing technology from other countries. We've partnered up with another British company, an international ventilation manufacturer that produces a heat exchanger with 90% efficiency, that heats incoming fresh filtered air during the expulsion process of stale, used air. Together, we've created a mini-HVAC system, that can produce heat, or cooling, on demand (using a thermostat), while hidden away in a closet or under the eaves, with extreme energy efficiencies. More can be found under the Environment, Thermal Performance tabs above. |
