CERTIFICATE

Certificate No. 259-12-7088

LABC is the member organisation representing local authority building control departments in England and Wales, and normally accepted throughout Scotland, promoting "the design and construction of safe, accessible, environmentally efficient buildings that comply with the Building Regulations."  This means that it is possible to receive local authority building control approval for building projects that use the Mantle Building System in all 376 local authority areas of the UK.

Codes 3 - 6; we can assist!

The Code uses a 1 to 6 star rating system to communicate the overall sustainability performance of a new home.

Our designers, structural engineers and architectural technicians can assist to realise the level of building to the Code Standards desired; together we can make Britain's homes more environmentally friendly for the future.

Low Carbon Structures

A low carbon development is one that achieves an annual reduction in carbon emissions of 50% or more from reduction in energy use on site. A Mantle Home, when installed with our recommended mini-MVHR system and triple A-rated appliances, exceeds this with very comfortable margins assisting developers to achieve Codes 3 to 6.

Zero Carbon Structures

A low carbon development combined with micro-generation of electricity on site can bring annual carbon emissions to zero allowing developers to achieve Codes 5 and 6 with the Mantle Building System (6 being the highest Code for Sustainable Homes for new homes as regulated from the 1st of May 2008).

Energy Passive Homes

The solution already exists within the UK; using extremely good insulation (superinsulation) along with unequaled air-tightness allows Mantle components to be used for any grade of structure.  The key is high insulation and extreme air-tightness, with an energy efficient ventilation system through the use of a heat exchanger.  Once a structure is highly insulated, and air-tight, the only decision the designer needs to make is the use of energy efficient heat exchangers within the ventilation system and we at Mantle are happy to make recommendations of up to 90%+ effective heat exchangers.  This lowers energy consumption drastically, reducing the requirements for capital expenses on micro-generation electricity units.  Instead of using solar gain, we concentrate on maintaining the micro-climate system at a steady temperature.  More can be found under the Environment, Thermal Performance tab above.

System Product LifeCycle

As part of a rating procedure, the carbon footprint of manufacturing and production (of the various components used in a structure) plays a major role in rating components or a full building system. To be able to judge whether a building product qualifies as a Low Carbon Structure, a Zero Carbon Structure or an Energy Passive Home, a strict review of a System Product LifeCycle (Wholelife) is necessary to ensure that all aspects of manufacture, production and erection is taken into consideration, from cradle to grave.  For further information please go to the System Product LifeCycle page, as located under the Environment tab above.
